They live in the pelagic area. They live in the epipelagic, mesopelagic, and sometimes the bathopelagic. This is roughly 900 metres deep.
They measure 3 to 4 metres when they are mature.
They mate only once every 3 years.
They are found in open water and tropical regions.
Unfortunately, they are often hunted for their liver, which is a major source of Vitamin A.
